The biggest reason why people fail is that they are blind to the importance of the present moment.
You need to create the urgency to act in the present. Here’s a weird exercise I did that made me realize how much the present matters. As we grow older, we have more responsibilities, and time goes faster. So, let’s do the math. Let’s say you are a 30-year-old female living in the U.S, the average life span is around 80 years old. If you make it to the average life span, you have 50 years left, that is 50 years left x 365 days per year for a total of 18, 250 days left in your LIFE!
Considering the limited days you have and how fast days are going by, you don’t have any time to lose. Look around you, it’s so easy to delay your tasks, to delay your goals and thinking they will somehow resolve themselves. The truth is, you have to look at the clock through a different perspective.
Self-growth isn’t dependent on time, but on your actions and on your life experiences. We live in an era of information, where you either go forward, or backward, there is no in-between. If you don’t keep yourself updated, the information era will leave you far behind. Industrialization is changing things at a record pace and life is moving fast. This is the reason why so many people are being diagnosed with ADD or ADHD.
Keeping up is hard.
That’s why NOW MATTERS so much. Stop delaying your tasks. You are only overwhelming yourself. Live in the present and don’t forget to look around you, and to enjoy nature’s beauty. Keeping up doesn’t mean to be an industrial robot; it means to have your life together and thus, finding the time to take a step back and to start feeling alive.
What does living in the present moment mean?
Undeniable fact: Life takes place in the present. Your decisions are made in the present moment. Your actions and emotions are experienced in the present moment. Living in the moment is our only choice. The past isn’t here anymore and the future isn’t there yet. The present is the only existing moment and the only one you can access.
Yet, we often forget to enjoy the present. Why is it so difficult to focus on the present?
The thoughts that distract us from the present moment, we often try to anticipate, thinking about tomorrow and pretending that things will get better by default. We dream about our future plans, scenarios, projects, and we forget about the present.
We fear the future.
How well will I integrate in this new position? What happens if I don’t catch my train on time? These questions only generate stress and anxiety. We often keep some regrets, some joys, some unfulfilled projects, or some questionable life decisions from the past.
Memories always come back to haunt us.
The continuous thoughts about the past and the future distract us from the present and prevent us from living peacefully. How can we live in the moment and take advantage of the present?
Is living a day-to-day life about forgetting the past? To stop planning for our future? Living in the moment is to make peace with our past and regrets. Realizing that the past is unchangeable is crucial to start living in the present. Changing the past is impossible and we must accept it. Forget about the usual “if I had done that, I would not be here today” kind of thoughts.
Learn from your regrets once and for all and move forward.
Realizing the time you've spent procrastinating on certain things or decisions because of your regrets can be a real eye-opener. Living in the present moment is to take notice that your time is limited and that taking action is crucial to eliminate the risk of having regrets later in life.
Living in the moment is accepting the unpredictability.
By definition, the future is unpredictable. Setting long-term goals and implementing a plan of action are crucial, but the action itself in each of these objectives happens in the present moment. We should stop trying to anticipate what the future is holding. In the same sense, don’t try to perfectly define your goals and projects.
In the present moment, the only choice is to take action and make the right choices.

Have confidence in your abilities to cope with adversity in the present moment; you will deal with challenges as they come to you. Your competence and qualities are revealed in the actions that you take in the present. Taking action will be more fun and you will no longer be troubled by future concerns or pasts regrets.
By freeing yourself from the past and future expectations, every present moment will be an opportunity to show your talents and to express your passion. Simplicity will be your new way of life.
Trying to simplify what you do regularly is one of the keys to a successful life.
